WCPT’s new partnership with PEDro

Evidence at your fingertips: WCPT’s new partnership with PEDro:WCPT has announced a partnership with PEDro (the Physiotherapy Evidence Database), which provides online access to over 24,000 randomised trials, systematic reviews and clinical practice guidelines in physical therapy.Because they share many of the same objectives and values, WCPT and PEDro have agreed to promote and publicise each other.“The World Confederation for Physical Therapy believes that PEDro is an essential resource that not only informs evidence-based physical therapy practice worldwide, but ultimately helps provide better services for those needing physical therapy,” said WCPT President Marilyn Moffat.Anne Moseley, PEDro’s Project Manager said: “PEDro is honoured to receive support from WCPT.  This type of recognition will help ensure the continuation of PEDro as a free robust evidence resource for physical therapists globally.” Launched in 1999, PEDro provides citation details, an abstract and a link for each trial, review or guideline. All trials on PEDro are independently assessed for quality. These quality ratings are used to quickly guide users to trials that are more likely to be valid and to contain sufficient information to guide clinical practice.PEDro is produced by the Centre for Evidence-Based Physiotherapy at The George Institute for Global Health on a not for profit basis. In 2011, WCPT’s General Meeting gave its support to efforts to secure the long term sustainability of PEDro, and many of its member organisations are able to provide financial support to PEDro.“While not everyone is in a position to do this I urge others to join WCPT in efforts to raise awareness and promote the value of PEDro,” said Marilyn Moffat. “As an international initiative furthering high quality practice, PEDro shares many of the same objectives and values as WCPT.”
